Mountain Croatia

Mountain Croatia

As its name says, this part of Croatia is covered in limestone — mountains, hills and also forests. It is situated in the north western part of Croatia bordering such cities as Delnice, Gospić, Senj, Ogulin and also a few Croatian national parks — Plitvice Lakes, Risnjak, Velebit and Paklenica. The area of Mountain Croatia consists of three parts — Lika, Gorski kotar and Ogulinsko-Potkapelska vale.

Even though this part of Croatia does not have huge administrative and economical centers and is poorly developed showing a low level of prosperity, it represents a huge tourist destination due to snow-filled winters and the beauty of its national parks — the beauty of flora and fauna, a pure nature. Mountain Croatia mostly has a moderately continental climate except for the highest points that are relatively cold most of the year. If you like white nature, frozen water and the cave effect, Mountain Croatia is a perfect place for you. In spring, when the snow melts, you can enjoy the beauty of Plitvička jezera, the most famous Croatian national park — the beauty of its lakes, waterfalls, and the beauty of nature itself.

Due to limestone land, it is impossible to profit from cultivating plants. That, the poor land, was the main reason of emigration. Local people benefit mostly from tourism.

We have pointed out that Mountain Croatia benefits from tourism that seems to be popular all year round due to national parks and the flora and fauna hiding within. Island Pag certainly represents another popular destination during the summer time.

The scent of the trees and a cold breeze coming down from the mountains, waterfalls and lots of canyons is a new adventure for everyone.
